Study and Research Opportunities

Postgraduate Studies

One or more funded graduate research positions are currently available for entering postgraduate students (Ph.D. or M.Phil., starting September 2017) at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, HKUST. Research topics center around outstanding problems in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, with emphasis on data analysis and sample preparation. If you have specific questions regarding the openings, you can email me.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in a related field (including disciplines of biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, and computer science) from a recognized university by the time of enrollment. A balanced skill-set comprising both wet-lab skills and computational skills is desired.

Interested applicants please send a cover letter describing research interests, a curriculum vitae, and 2 to 3 references to me on or before May 1st, 2017. Interviews maybe arranged for selected applicants.

Qualified candidates should condiser applying for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (HKPFS) to maximize the chance of admission. Note that there is an earlier deadline of Dec 1st, 2016 for HKPFS application.

The admitted candidates will be given full studentship (scholarship), with stipend sufficient for living expenses and tuition. Successful applicants are required to satisfy the postgraduate entrance requirement of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, HKUST.

Postdoctoral Research

A postdoctoral research scientist position is available at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, HKUST, starting in January 2016 or later. Research topics center around outstanding problems in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, including data analysis, sample preparation and instrumentation aspects.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree in a related field (including disciplines of biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, and computer science) from a reputed research university by the time of employment. Expertise in mass spectrometry, peptide and protein chemistry, and/or computational proteomics is desired. Candidates with exceptional research record in unrelated fields of science and engineering will also be considered. Interested applicants please send a cover letter describing research interests, a curriculum vitae, and 2 ro 3 references to me. Interviews may be arranged for selected applicants. Remuneration will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
